Junior National Table Tennis 2013 Results
Great results for the Galway Speeders who competed in the Junior Nationals TT championships on Sunday.
Jack was crowned Boys Wheelchair champion for the second year running!
Jessica came second in the Girls Wheelchair event and also came 2nd in the Girls plate.
Sinead won the Girls Standing event.
And newcomer Dylan, in his first tabletennis competition, won the Boys Plate.
Finally, Mark narrowly missed out on 3rd place in the Boys event following a five sets contest!!
Well done to all involved and Thanks to coaches Rena, Ronan and Richard for travelling to Dublin to mentor and support all our players!!

The Galway Speeders athletes and volunteers collected SIX awards at the IWA-Sport AGM on Saturday 23rd of February!!

Galway Speeders host Wheelchair Basketball Blitz
Last Sunday, the Galway Speeders hosted the third round of the IWA Sport Junior Wheelchair Basketball Development Blitz in Renmore Community Centre. 32 players from Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Galway took part, with four teams battling it out throughout the day. There were some strongly contested games with two of those going to extra time!! The day ended with an All-Star game which also went down to the wire with the Western All-Star team edging out by a point! The next round will be in Clontarf on the 17th of February.
Special thanks to Renmore Community Centre, SAP Volunteers, the Clada group, Kingfisher Club NUI Galway , Bill Madden Florists and IWA Sport for their support and sponsorship. And finally, Galway Speeders would like to thank the parents and kids that took part on the day.

The 'Saturday Club'
Galway Speeders are launching a new 'Saturday Club' group opened to young children with a physical disability.
Time: Saturday 2:30 'til 3:30pm from the 12th January 2013.
Venue: Renmore Community Centre
Fun activities will include indoor games, athletics, Boccia; and more.

Paralympic Talent Search
Paralympic Ireland is hosting a Talent ID Day on Sat October 13th. This will be held at UCD and will run from 10 to 4.30. It will be a great opportunity for junior athletes to see other sports being showcased and also there will be a chance to speak to senior athletes and coaches in various sports. We are back in action!!
Basketball is back weekly in Renmore Community Centre from 1:30 to 2:30. Check the calendar for all training sessions.
Swimming will return on Thursday the 20th of September at 19:30 in the Kingfisher. Please come and try it out.
And finally, our paralympics heroes will be back on the 6th of October to start the table tennis season!!

Activities update
Athletics: The Cork games are on saturday the 22nd of September, please register if you want to take part.
Basketball: We are holding a skills session on wednesday the 29th of August from 4 to 6 in NUI Galway Kingfisher club. New season training time and venue to be confirmed shortly.
Karate: Karate is still ongoing every monday, same place, same time.
Sailing: After the success of the Volvo Ocean race, Sailing is still ongoing with Galway Bay Sailing Club every thursday
Swimming: We are planning to return swimming in September on thursdays at 7:30. Date to be confirmed
Table Tennis: Training will resume once our Paralympians Athletes, Rena and Ronan, return from London. We should be back in October.

Galway Athletics Games - report
Galway Speeders hosted their first National Athletics Games event in NUI Sports Grounds, Dangan on Saturday 16th June. Athletes with a physical disability from all over the country including Galway, Cork, Dublin, Waterford, Tipperary, Limerick, Laois, Kildare and Kilkenny took part which included top class athletes from the National Junior Paralympic Team. A high standard of performance was exhibited across all events which included discus, shot putt, javelin and track. Many athletes achieved personal best scores on the day and the 13 Galway athletes performed extremely well winning 18 gold ,16 silver and 8 bronze medals between them.
Overall the day, which was sponsored by SAP Galway and supported by volunteers from IWA, Enable Ireland, SAP and parents and friends, was a resounding success. This event was another milestone for the Galway Speeders who continue to go from strength and now have established sports sections in athletics, wheelchair basketball, tabletennis, karate, swimming and sailing. Karate Championships
Congratulations to Dylan and Shane who competed in the Irish Wheelchair Karate Championships at the Loreto Sports Complex, Fermoy, Co. Cork on Sunday May 13th. This was their first competitive outing. Dylan got Bronze in his category and Shane got Silver in his category. Well done guys and Thank you to West Karate Club! We are Swimming!!
Galway Speeders Swim Club is back!!
After a very successful first term, we are back on Thursday the 19th of April at 19:30 in NUI Galway Kingfisher Club.
Please be in the water for 19:30. Session last 45mins.
We offer the Halliwick method of swimming and swimming lessons for beginners/improvers. Cost per session is 5 Euros.

Basketball: Training is now finished for this season and will resume again in September. Final Blitz in Clontarf
on sunday the 15th of April.
Karate: No karate on Easter Monday. Back on the 16th of April, same place, same time.
Sailing: Starting on the 26th of April. Check the Sailing page for details.
Swimming: First term went very well. Date for second term to be confirmed. Check the page for update.
Table Tennis: Training is still going on every saturday morning in the Kingfisher. End of season tournament

Reminder - Fundraiser - Walk in Memory of Saundra
Galway Speeders is one of the chosen charity to benefit from the Walk in memory of Saundra on Sunday the 18th of March (Mother's day).
The event will start from the Mervue GAA Club House at 1.30pm to walk to Ballyloughane Beach were we will release 99 Red Balloons in memory of Saundra.
We are asking for a 10 euro donation from all who wish to attend the walk (children go free). The other charities to benefit from the walk are:
- ACT for Meningities
- Rosedale House (Brothers of Charity)

Speeders Athletics
Following on from the success of the Galway Games athletics event last September, the Galway Speeders are hoping to develop an Athletics section in our club.
As part of this, we are planning to host another athletics day in Dangan on Sat. 16th June and in preparation for that we will be having a series of training days.
We have been offered help with this by Craughwell Athletics Club and have already arranged 4 training sessions with them. The first of these will be held next Sunday 19th February from 2pm til 4pm. Check the Athletics page for more information.

Athletics dates

The bridging panel replaces the Emerging talent and is invitational only. Invitations will be sent to selected athletes by IWA-Sport.

SPEEDERS on ICE!!!!

'MORE THAN MUSIC' GALA CONCERT
'More Than Music' are kindly organising a Variety Musical concert to raise funds for the Galway Speeders. This concert will be held in the Bailey Allen Hall, NUI Galway, on Friday 18th November at 8.00 p.m. We have a great line-up including:

Galway Speeders are launched
The Galway Speeders club was launched on Friday 4th of November in Moffetts Restaurant, NUI Galway.
